Not MY Daughter: “Hot Girls Wanted” Reveals America’s Unhealthy Relationship With Sex

Admittedly, I found myself prepping my pedestal when Rachel Bernard, formerly known as porn star “Ava Taylor” justifies her career by noting:

“We’re free. The world is in our hands.”

“Do I want to be in my parents shoes when I’m their age? Like, no. I didn’t want to go to college, meet someone in college, marry them. Stay in my hometown, have a bunch of kids and then die there. I’ve done so much shit here. More than I ever done in my entire life. Chilled in penthouses, been in Lamborghinis, rode on street bikes.  Did all the shit that I’ve ever wanted to do.”

The 18-year-old rejects the traditional American dream as she smokes a blunt in a leopard print skullcap and large black framed glasses that looks like she’s been shopping the nerd chic section of a Delia’s catalog. In some ways she’s right. You may not be a loser by marrying your college sweetheart and running for PTA President, but you are if you’re not happy doing it. Still, Rachel, is unaware that she sounds like an idiot, like many of us did when we were fresh out of high school and hype as hell to be an adult without fully understanding that if we knew better, we’d stay in our parent’s basements for the rest of our lives escaping responsibility. I quickly realize that as much as we’d love to slam these girls with judgment, they teach us a lot about the American way and therefore a lot about ourselves.

These girls value what America values: Money, beauty, cars and clothes. We can’t condemn them for wanting the quickest route possible to “the good life”, and then Google “Cream pie Cuties” when we think no one is looking. These girls want to be the next Kim Kardashian, because that’s what they see America values. When I sat down at my desk today you know what was trending on my Yahoo homepage? Kim K. and Kanye Pregnant with Baby #2. Not who is the latest politician to join the race for President or even the Patriot Act lapse and what the fuck that means for you and me. But the fact that the Kardashian Klan will be getting their Google map on again with baby names. Can you blame girls who want to take their clothes off for the camera if it means that they too will be more important news than the law that governs the land?
